As popularity grows for cosmetic dentistry treatments, Cosmetic Dentists are finding that more and more people are requesting cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic Dental treatments cover a wide variety of dental treatment all done in dental practice. This article covers some of the popular cosmetic dentistry treatments available at cosmetic dentist.

Porcelain Veneers
One of the most popular and well known cosmetic dentistry treatments is porcelain veneers. These can completely revitalise your smile and make you confident to smile! Porcelain veneers are great for hiding crooked, gappy, worn or broken teeth. They are great and produce amazing instant results.

Porcelain Crowns or Dental Crowns
Similar to porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns are often used to protect or rebuild damaged or worn teeth. Porcelain crowns have the aesthetics of porcelain veneers but are stronger as they cover all the tooth structure. Porcelain crowns are only needed if there is not enough tooth structure for dental veneers.

Porcelain Bridges or Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. They can replace from one to five teeth. Dental bridges are fixed to normally 2 abutment teeth with the replacement teeth in the middle. Porcelain bridges tend to be used where cosmetics is important. Porcelain bridges are more aesthetic than standard bridges.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are another way of replacing teeth. With dental implants you can replace from one to all your teeth. Dental implants do not depend on abutment teeth unlike dental bridges, but you need to have a good jaw bone to support dental implants. Dental implants are very successful.

Orthodontics and Clear braces.
A very popular way to correct crooked or gappy teeth is braces or orthodontics. They are many types of braces available. Clear braces are removable; most popular types are Inman aligners, Clear step and invisalign. Traditional orthodontics includes fixed braces such as daemon or ceramic braces. Your orthodontist or cosmetic dentist can tell you what brace are best for you.

Searching high and low for the perfect formula that really works to get rid of your bad breath problems? Feeling frustrated or distress despite spending tons of money buying all the junk stuff that doesn’t seems to work at all? You are not alone! There are many natural remedies for bad breath available to a fresher cleaner breath all the time!

Just picture this. It’s Friday night. You and a couple of friends go to the local bar to have a drink and start the weekend off right. You spot a fine man/woman at the other side of the bar sipping an apple martini.

Seconds before you go over to introduce yourself, you do a personal check to make sure all systems are a go. Hair. Check. Make-up (if you are a woman). Check. Clothes. Check. Breath. Uh oh. Suddenly, you realize you’re breath reeks of tomatoes and garlic. Ops, where is my natural bad breath remedies…you ask!

Maybe you’ve been in the above situation before or a friend of yours frequently shows up for your weekly lunch date with rotten smelling breath that spans a ten-mile radius. No matter the time, place, or person, bad breath can be enough to kill a mood and stifle a conversation.

However, a few simple natural remedies for bad breath can cure your problem in a matter of minutes so that you don’t find yourself alone at the punch table at your work function. Additionally, there are longer-term solutions to curing bad breath naturally and keeping your mouth smelling fresh and clean.

Dentists say that cinnamon gum, such as Big Red, is one of the best remedies because it generates saliva, which moistens the mouth and washes away any bad breath-causing bacteria.

Why cinnamon you may ask? The flavor has been said by dentists to possess odor-fighting abilities that decrease bacteria. One unexpected cause of bad breath is dehydration and dryness, which explains why you would hesitate to kiss that cutie you picked up at the bar when you first wake up.

There are other natural remedies for bad breath that work towards fighting bad breath on a longer-term basis. First of all, make sure you change your toothbrush every month to avoid recycling the bacteria from the dull bristles.

It’s also a good idea to brush your tongue as well as your teeth in the morning; the tongue is home to millions of bacteria that accumulate after each meal. In addition to the above natural bad breath remedies, pick up a brand of toothpaste that fights plaque, microorganisms that accumulate on your teeth.

In the same aisle, you will find mouthwash, which you should also use daily to reduce bacteria and plaque. Combining these natural bad breath remedies of oral hygiene make for a surefire, natural way to cure your bad breath.

The next time you are in the bar, you won’t hesitate a second to introduce yourself to the hottie of your dreams, and you’ll have no problem kissing him/her either. You’ll know your minty fresh breath will sweep your cutie off his/her feet! So remember to act on those natural remedies for bad breath!

When it comes to your smile, you’ll want to be sure that it is always looking its best. A winning smile can mean the difference between a great first impression and a poor one. If you have concerns about the look of your teeth, or perhaps you have a damaged tooth or two, you may want to consider having some dental crowns fitted. A dental crown is an elegant and practical solution to an annoying and sometimes unattractive problem.

What are Dental Crowns?

Simply put, dental crowns are either partial or full replacements for one or more of your teeth. They can be used to take the place of a damaged or discolored tooth, or repair a tooth that has been chipped or broken in any way.

Dental crowns can be fitted by any dentist, and are usually made from porcelain. You can also have a gold crown fitted should the mood take you. Dental crowns are an indirect method of tooth restoration, meaning that the dental crown can be crafted without the patient present, and then fitted at a later date. The benefit here is that the patient does not have to sit through a lengthy spell in the dentist’s chair – which we all know can be a harrowing experience! A dentist will either use a dental bridge to attach the new crown to adjacent teeth, or will ‘whittle down’ the tooth which is being crowned into a peg shape then ‘clip’ the new crown on and bond it with long-lasting cement.

Dental crowns can be fitted for either medical or cosmetic reasons. If a tooth has become damaged, a crown can effectively restore it to its former glory without anybody noticing the difference. Some people choose to have all of their teeth crowned as a way to gain that great smile they’ve always wanted; however this course of action is often very expensive.

Who Can Benefit from Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are a great way to replace a broken or damaged tooth. Let’s say you’ve had an unfortunate accident which has left you with a chipped front tooth – it’s not going to do wonders for your confidence and could cause health problems further down the line. Having a dental crown fitted to this tooth is a great way to replace what has been lost, and regain the confidence that comes from having a full healthy smile. Whether your problem is medical or simply aesthetic, having a dental crown fitted can work absolute wonders when it comes to your self confidence and general enjoyment of life. As we all know, if you look great, you feel great!

What are the Benefits of Dental Crowns?

As we’ve already seen, dental crowns can restore self confidence and your smile, but there are also numerous medical benefits that can be gained from dental crowns. For example, if one of your teeth has been subject to decay or damage, it may be a breeding ground for nasty oral bacteria which can lead to some terrible diseases and oral hygiene problems. Having your tooth restored via a dental crown can alleviate this problem. Aside from having a full dental cleaning, a dental crown in the right place is a fantastic way to ensure that none of your teeth are causing you to be vulnerable to any unpleasant oral issues.

Are There Any Risks Involved in Dental Crowns?

The answer to this one is yes and no. It all depends on the person, and the dentist carrying out the procedure. For example, a dentist may fit a dental crown to a tooth that has already become too decayed or diseased, which may leave that tooth vulnerable to the disease spreading without the patient even knowing it. These cases are rare, though, so as long as you choose a trustworthy dentist you should be just fine. Other than the standard risks involved with any visit to the dentist, problems relating to dental crowns are very uncommon.

Dental Crowns: Are They Worth It?

The bottom line here has to be that for those who are in need – either medically or cosmetically – of a way to improve the look of a damaged, discolored or generally unattractive tooth, dental crowns are a great idea. Providing your reasoning meets the criteria, you may also be able to have the dental crowns paid for via your dental plan.

If you are paying for a full set of dental crowns yourself, you may find yourself a little out of pocket; but if they boost your quality of life, they’re worth it – and you can’t really put a price on that.

The information in the article is not intended to substitute for the medical expertise and advice of your health care provider. We encourage you to discuss any decisions about treatment or care with an appropriate health care provider.

General dentistry is a branch of medicine concerned with the overall health mouth, especially of the teeth and gums. Most people consider visits to the dentist an important factor in their overall health. Check ups, hygienic cleaning and annual inspections are usually a typical part of most people’s lives. Cosmetic dentists are fully capable of practicing general dentistry and provide the added benefit of providing care with aesthetic appearances in mind.

Cosmetic procedures cannot be performed until necessary general dentistry procedures are complete and your mouth gets a clean bill of health. Instead of going to a traditional dentist for basic dental care and then finding a qualified cosmetic dentist, you can get all your care at one place. Cosmetic dentists are dental specialists that have up to four additional years of training for cosmetic procedures. Since their overarching goal is to provide you with a brilliant new smile, all the care you receive is aimed at achieving that objective.

Taking Care of Basic Oral Hygiene

Cosmetic dentists are fully capable of helping you maintain and treat basic dental problems including:

Cavities

Gum disease

Cleaning

After annual check-ups, the most common general dentistry procedures are concerned with treating dental caries, or cavities. Cavities develop when enamel becomes compromised due to inconsistent brushing and oral hygiene practices. Many traditional dentists still fill cavities with metal fillings, but cosmetic dentists usually have the resources to provide non-metal fillings that are just as effective and can be matched to the color of your teeth to maintain a brighter and whiter smile.

Improper brushing and poor dental hygiene also lead to gum disease, or gingivitis and eventually periodontitis. Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissue that supports your teeth. Gum disease first grows in the sulcus, the v-shaped crevice between the teeth and the gums. If left untreated, gingivitis can develop into periodontitis, which actually infects the bone of the tooth. Treatment of gum disease is another general dentistry practice performed by cosmetic dentists.

Other General Dentistry Procedures

Missing teeth, whether due to trauma or untreated disease, can be replaced with a variety of dental implants. Traditional dentists frequently have to send out the tooth impressions to outside laboratories to be fabricated. Cosmetic dentists, especially those trained at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute have their appliances made at LVI approved labs, providing the best quality available and improving the turn around time for dental implants, crowns, and other dental appliances.

Sedation Dentistry

Fear of pain or of dentists offices in general often keep people who need general dentistry care from the office. Few people like to wait in a busy dentist’s office and wait patiently for their turn to sit in an uncomfortable chair for generally unpleasant cleanings and tooth repair. Sedation dentistry is a new technique employed by many cosmetic dentists to help alleviate the pain and therefore the fear of going to the dentist for necessary care.

One of the added benefits of finding a cosmetic dentist is the fact that he or she can create an overall plan for your oral treatment. All of your dental care takes your appearance into consideration. A cosmetic dentist can see to all your general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry needs.

Cosmetic surgery is a huge business; so much so that the competition between the different types of cosmetic treatments is really heating up. There are some types of cosmetic enhancement, however, that you may not have heard of just yet. For example, did you know that there is such a thing as a dental face lift? That’s right, we’ve all heard of ’standard’ face lifts which involve ‘under the knife’ surgery, but there is now a dental face lift available which completely rules out any surgery whatsoever.

What is a Dental Face Lift?

A dental face lift is designed to do exactly what the name suggests – increase the tautness of skin on the face to ease the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, with a view to making the patient look younger than their years. The difference between a dental face lift and a ‘regular’ one is the fact that nothing is actually done to the skin. The entire procedure is a dental one and involves the restoration of the teeth in order to rebuild facial muscles that may have weakened over time.

How Do Dental Face Lifts Work?

The theory goes like this: as we age our teeth become more and more worn down. This wear decreases the amount of space between the nose and the chin. Lost teeth are another reason for a reduction in this distance. Dental face lifts work by rebuilding and replacing any missing or worn down teeth. The aim of this process is to gradually rebuild the facial muscles around the mouth and therefore restore the face to its natural height. As the muscles develop, the skin on the face will once again become taut.
Dental face lifts are still a relatively new concept and as such there is no ’solid’ scientific evidence that they really do work. The one thing that is certain, though, is that they do not involve any unnatural manipulation of the skin. This means that you won’t come out looking like a science fiction character if anything goes wrong!

Who Can Benefit from Dental Face Lifts?

Anyone who would like to have younger looking skin combined with a brand new set of repaired teeth will likely benefit from dental face lifts. It all depends on what you, as a patient, wish to gain out of the procedure. It may be best to expect a great new smile and then, with any luck, be even more pleasantly surprised if your wrinkles disappear or improve as a result.

What are the Benefits of Dental Face Lifts?

The benefits of dental face lifts are (or at least can be) twofold. Firstly, the worn down or missing teeth are being repaired or replaced – meaning that no matter what happens with the skin on the face, the patient will have a brand new set of healthy teeth. Secondly, the patient’s skin should become tightened as the muscles rebuild, leaving them looking younger and reducing the appearance of any wrinkles that may have set in over the years. Because dental face lifts are mainly a cosmetic procedure, the only real medical benefit that can be foreseen is the replacement of damaged or missing teeth, which can cause bacteria buildup and encourage the development of oral diseases.

Are Any Risks Involved with Dental Face Lifts?

Whilst ‘regular’ face lifts come with a whole host of possible problems and risks, because dental face lifts are a purely dental procedure they are generally considered much safer. The risks that are present are really only those that you may face as a result of any trip to the dentist. Be sure that the teeth you are having to replace your old ones are to your liking – as it can be quite tricky (and expensive) to have the whole procedure carried out again.

Dental Face Lifts: A Good Alternative?

So, are dental face lifts a good alternative to the more ‘traditional’ face lift surgeries? Well, they certainly have less risk involved and the method by which they actually lift the muscles in the face is effectively natural; however, dental face lifts are not yet a tried and tested method of providing a face lift. The upside to them is that they will certainly provide you with a healthier, whiter smile – and that fact alone may well justify their existence, and cost.

Nobody really enjoys going to the dentist, but for some people, the thought of a visit to the dentist causes such intense panic that they resign themselves to avoiding the dentist completely. If an overwhelming fear has been causing you to put off your next visit to the dentist, then you might want to consider sedation dentistry.

It can be difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of a person’s fear of the dentist, but there are certainly a number of disconcerting factors involved with even a standard cleaning. From bad tastes and smells to the sensation of being poked and prodded in the mouth, the idea of avoiding the dentist altogether is an understandable escape. Some people are just plain afraid of any and all medical procedures, including those that are completely routine. Other people have sensitive teeth and gums, which can make even a regular dental cleaning uncomfortable bordering on painful. There are also those people who have naturally sensitive gag reflexes and tend to feel like they’re choking or can’t breathe as long as their mouths are being worked on.

While there are plenty of reasons to submit to the fear and avoid the dentist, that approach will only cause issues in the long run. A dental cleaning is recommended every six months to maintain proper oral hygiene. The longer you put off going to the dentist, the more tooth-related issues you are bound to have down the road. It’s a good thing that sedation dentistry is becoming increasingly popular – and available – by the day.

The idea behind sedation dentistry is that instead of working to tackle your fear of the dentist, you can simply eliminate it courtesy of a nice dose of your favorite anti-anxiety drug such as Halcion or Valium. When used as prescribed, these medications are quite safe and do not cause any long-term effects.

With sedation dentistry, a pill is taken about an hour or two before the dental appointment so that by the time you’re ready to head out, you’ll be too relaxed – and loopy – to panic your way into canceling. Since this initial dose is likely to cause extreme grogginess, you’ll need to ask a friend or family member to transport you to and from the dentist’s office. Additional anti-anxiety medication may then be administered at the dentist’s office on as-needed basis. Your dentist will make that determination based on a number of factors, including how well the initial dose has kicked in and how long the appointment is expected to take.

During sedation dentistry, the patient retains consciousness throughout the process. Although sedation dentistry is often referred to as sleep dentistry, the patients involved are actually not asleep, but rather in extremely relaxed, sedated states. They are still able to respond to questions and instructions from the dentist, though they have little to no recollection of the procedure once it is over.

Thanks to the wonders of sedation dentistry, many formerly dental phobic patients are now walking around with healthy mouths and clean smiles, and many current patients are slowly coming around to embrace the option of an experience at the dentist’s office that is not only painless, but rather forgettable.

Of course, not everyone is a fan of this latest craze. Some medical professionals are opposed to the idea of sedation dentistry, warning that dentists are too quick to administer drugs and that patients can easily become over-sedated.

Because patients metabolize pills differently, the effects of the initial dosage are not always immediately recognized. When a patient arrives for an appointment, it might appear as though he is not adequately sedated, and the dentist might elect to increase the dosage prior to the procedure. However, some dentists are too quick to make this determination and do not allow enough time for the initial dose to kick in. The result is an over-sedated patient that must be closely watched. However, as part of the sedation dentistry process, a trained professional is always on-hand to monitor the patient’s vital signs throughout the sedation period. For your own comfort, do not be afraid to ask your dentist about his training and experience in sedation dentistry.

Another thing to be aware of is that sleep dentistry can come with a cost. While most dental insurance companies will cover the dental work itself, they can be rather stingy when it comes to the sedation aspect since technically-speaking, it is rarely medically necessary. While most dentists will work with you to keep sedation costs to a minimum, remember that you are not only paying for the drugs themselves, but for the cost of patient monitoring throughout the procedure. However, given the importance of proper dental care and the discomfort that often comes with it, can you really put a price tag on peace of mind?

Bright pearly whites are no longer a luxury reserved for the rich and famous- more and more people are seeking teeth whitening treatments for a fabulous smile they can show off. And why not? Great teeth can make you feel more confident, and with today’s many options, tooth whitening is becoming more accessible for everyone.

But with so many options, how do you choose the best way to brighten your smile? Over-the-counter whitening trays and toothpastes are affordable but don’t always offer the most immediate and effective results; some in-office dental whitening laser procedures can be costly without a guaranteed result.

Zoom! Whitening offers an appealing option for many, with innovative tooth whitening technology and a comfortable in-office procedure.

What is Zoom! Whitening?

Zoom! Whitening is an in-office dental light-activated whitening treatment that relies upon a strong light activated hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching agent- called Zoom! Gel- applied to teeth in order to lighten the discoloration of enamel and dentin. The specialized “Zoom!” light helps to activate the hydrogen peroxide, aiding the bleaching agent in penetrating the surface of the tooth.

During the procedure, the Zoom! gel and lighting is applied onto the patient’s teeth in three short sessions. The entire Zoom! Whitening treatment is usually completed within one hour. A cleaning is recommended prior to the whitening treatment.

Zoom! 2 refers to the updated version of the Zoom! tooth bleaching application. One of the major differences between the two procedures is that while the original Zoom! Whitening tooth whitening treatment took up to an hour to complete, the Zoom 2 system is completed within 45 minutes, with three 15-minute sessions of whitening.

Who needs Zoom! Whitening?

Anyone who is looking for brighter and whiter teeth, or seeking to remove or lighten tooth discolorations and stains may want to look into Zoom! Whitening.

Tooth discoloration can be caused by tobacco use, red wine, coffee, or certain medications used during dental formation.

Almost anyone can get effective tooth whitening results from Zoom! Whitening. However, some people may not be able to get the results they are looking for. A shade assessment, performed prior to the whitening, can give you an idea of the realistic results you will see.

Benefits of Zoom! Whitening

The Zoom! and Zoom! 2 systems offer fast and effective tooth whitening, with a result of up to eight shades lighter within the 45-60 minute treatment. The results are immediate- a major plus if you don’t want to wait the days or weeks many over-the-counter tooth whitening systems take before you see results.

The Zoom! Whitening procedure is also designed to be comfortable, with low heat and a low-sensitivity gel and lighting system. Patients can relax throughout the treatment by listening to music or watching television.

Risks and Possible Disadvantages

Tooth sensitivity is the perhaps the most common complaint about with Zoom! Whitening. Most often, the discomfort is caused by heat produced by the lamp, which is minimal. Minor tingling sensations may be felt right after the procedure. The severity of tooth sensitivity varies greatly depending upon the person. Anti-sensitivity toothpaste can be provided by your dentist prior to the treatment in order to provide a more comfortable experience. The updated Zoom! 2 system is designed to be 67% less sensitive than the original Zoom! Whitening.

Gum irritation may also occur during or after the Zoom! Whitening treatment. In rare cases, clients have complained about prolonged tooth sensitivity, burned and swollen lips, and even pains in the throat and gums. These problems are most likely due to the dentist not following the Zoom! Whitening system procedures correctly.

Who should avoid Zoom! Whitening?

People with a strong gag reflex or anxiety issue may find it difficult to last throughout the entire procedure. Zoom! Whitening (like any other tooth bleaching product or procedure) is also not recommended for children under 13, or pregnant or lactating women.

How to get the most out of your Zoom! Whitening

There are a few simple steps you can take to make the whitening results from your Zoom! procedure last. Avoiding things like coffee, cigarettes, and red wine ensure that you do not stain over your newly-whitened teeth. Brushing twice daily, flossing, and occasional touch-ups with Zoom! Weekender or Night White gel are all steps recommended by Zoom! to prolong your results.

We all know just how important it is to keep our teeth nice and clean. Daily brushing is second nature to the majority of people, and it’s a great way to keep clear of nasty oral problems and diseases. However, there are times when our teeth can become subject to problems that just cannot be dealt with via brushing alone. Whether those pesky bacteria have worked their way into a hidden nook of your mouth, or you’ve noticed signs of gum disease, a professional dental cleaning is a great way to be sure your teeth and mouth are in tip-top condition.

What is Dental Cleaning?

A professional dental cleaning is effectively a highly thorough and vigorous cleansing of the entire mouth and teeth; while brushing, flossing and using mouthwash can clean the majority of the mouth, a professional dental cleaning will reach every last spot within your mouth. Dental cleaning generally comes paired with a dental checkup, meaning that should you have any concerns regarding your oral health, they can be addressed by a professional dentist right there and then.

During a dental cleaning, your dentist will generally remove any plaque buildup – which is often not visible to the naked eye. Excess plaque on the teeth is often a sign of improper oral hygiene. Once the plaque has been removed, your dentist should give you some pointers on how to avoid plaque building up in the future.

Dental cleaning is like a tune-up for your mouth, effectively lowering your chances of contracting any nasty oral diseases such as gingivitis (gum disease) or oral cancer.

Who Will Benefit Most from Dental Cleaning?

There’s a simple answer to this one – everybody!

Whether you think you have the most perfect set of pearly whites in the world, there’s always a chance that bacteria could be lurking somewhere in your mouth – posing a threat to that winning smile of yours. A dental cleaning can safeguard your mouth from future problems, and also alert you to any oral issues that you may not already be aware of.

A dental cleaning can often be paid for by a dental plan, usually every six months or so. If you’re already paying into a dental plan, why not use it a little? Dental cleanings are an inexpensive and effective way of ensuring your dental and oral hygiene is as good as it can be.

What are the Benefits of Dental Cleaning?

As already mentioned, there are a whole host of oral problems that can befall anyone, even those who think their teeth are in mint condition. The risks range from gingivitis and periodontal (gum) disease (which stems from untreated gingivitis) to (in the very worst case scenarios) oral cancer. It’s not just diseases, either. The simple build up of plaque on the teeth can exacerbate the development of these issues. Even if you think your teeth are clean, there may well be some nasty bacteria lurking in an area you just can’t reach. The benefits of dental cleaning truly outweigh any of the potential pitfalls (of which there are practically zero). You will have a healthier set of teeth, fresher breath and a far lower risk of disease than those who choose not to have a dental cleaning. As the name suggests, you’ll also find yourself with much whiter teeth!

What are the Risks of Dental Cleaning?

To be perfectly honest, there are no real risks associated with dental cleaning. Any potential risk would be the same as that which could occur during a regular trip to your dentist. There are no recorded problems with the dental cleaning procedure. It really is a win/win course of action for those looking for a brighter smile and healthier mouth.

Dental Cleaning: A Makeover for Your Mouth

In conclusion, dental cleaning is a highly recommended form of ensuring a great set of teeth and an all-round healthy mouth.
If oral hygiene is one of your concerns (and even if it isn’t), get your dental cleaning booked now and experience the benefits of giving your mouth a well deserved makeover.
